Biography 

Dr. Jon K. Lauck is the executive director of the Center for Western Studies at ÌÇÐÄVlog. He earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of Iowa, a law degree from the University of Minnesota and is the past president of the Midwestern History Association and Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature. Lauck is the editor-in-chief of the journal Middle West Review and author or editor of more then 30 books. Lauck's monographs include The Good Country: A History of the American Midwest (University of Oklahoma Press); The Lost Region: Toward a Revival of Midwestern History (University of Iowa Press); Prairie Republic: The Political Culture of Dakota Territory (University of Oklahoma Press); From Warm Center to Ragged Edge: The Erosion of Midwestern Literary and Historical Regionalism, 1920-1965 (University of Iowa Press); and American Agriculture and the Problem of Monopoly (University of Nebraska Press). Lauck's edited collections include The Oxford History of the American Midwest (Oxford University Press); The Missouri, America's Longest River (Center for Western Studies); and The Plains Political Tradition (4 vols., SD State Historical Society Press). In 2023, Lauck was awarded the Frederick Jackson Turner Award for Lifetime Achievement in Midwestern History.
